OSTEN BIENNIAL OF DRAWING - World Gallery of Drawing - Skopje, Macedonia General Information World Gallery of Drawing OSTEN - art on paper draws its inspiration from the 40 years tradition of the World Gallery of Cartoons and represents a natural expansion of the scope of OSTEN by dedicating itself to fostering drawing and graphic arts. The World Gallery of Drawing is the single event of its kind in Macedonia that keeps up with the contemporary trends in the area of visual arts and is a fast-developing one continuously being enhanced by new content in art on paper. Envisaged as a biennale event, Biennial of Awarded Artists occurs in between the years of the regular World Gallery of Drawing continuing to grant awards to the artist, thus stimulate their further production. As a part of the award GOLDEN OSTEN, awarded at each World Gallery of Drawing event, a residency in Macedonia is foreseen for recipients of this award. The artwork produced during the stay of artists under the GOLDEN OSTEN Residency Program as well as artwork from every edition of theWorld Gallery of Drawing, shall be considered the national treasure and a partof the collection of the Museum of Drawing. The Museum of Drawingis one of the latest and the most ambitious of projects of OSTEN - art on paper. We consider our commitment to drawing and nurturing something so basic, elemental and essential to be our greatest contribution to development of art. Description As great admirer to art, as a connoisseur of the needs of artists and creative processes in artwork, OSTEN - art on paper stimulates, motivates and incites artists to create by granting rewards. Even though the established communication and cooperation with the participants of the World Gallery of Drawing is a reward in itself, the valorization of efforts and recognition of personal segments integrated in paper drawings or painted canvases provide the authors additional incentive for further creation. We established an awarding system by the means of which we appreciate authors and by the means of which we strive to value each distinct artistic quality and sensibility. WORLD CULTURAL HERITAGE AWRD - awarded to an artist who immensely influenced the art world with his/her work. GRAND PRIX for LIFE ACHIEVEMENT – awarded to an artist who during his/her professional life has arrived at the top of his/her professional career, or whose artwork is the pinnacle of his/her creation thus far. FIRST AWARDS – awarded to masters in their field and it is evident that their artwork falls under the category of worldwide significant artwork. GOLDEN OSTEN Awards - are awarded to artists whose creation we wish to further stimulate, hence apart of the award consists of their participation in the Artist Residency Program GOLDEN OSTEN, organized by OSTEN - art on paper every second year (in-between the years of the World Gallery of Drawing as a biennale event). SPECIAL AWARDS – awarded by the jury or by OSTEN - art on paper are always recognition of the distinctiveness of the artistic expression in authors’ artwork.
